The 12 Best Books on Entrepreneurship
One of the great things about being an entrepreneur is learning. Whether it’s from the other entrepreneurs around you, on online forums, or from the many entrepreneurship books that have been published.
One thing most entrepreneurs, digital nomads, or business executives have in common is their passion for knowledge. Almost all of them love to read. Luckily, there is no shortage of truly astonishing books that should be on the mandatory reading list for every business owner and aspiring entrepreneur.
This list contains the must-read books on entrepreneurship – The list contains books the aspiring digital nomad or entrepreneur as well as for business owners that want to accelerate growth or increase their productivity.
The E-Myth Revisited – Michael E. Gerber
“Because this path you’re now on, this entrepreneurial path, winds around corners that will amaze you at times, and even shock you at others. To be sure, it will be anything but certain, but that’s why it is so exciting! It’s the path of surprise. It’s the path of constant engagement. And because it’s all those things, it is truly the path of life, or as Rollo May might have called it, “the path of freedom”.”
An all-time classic. Michaele Gerber lays the foundation of what it means to build a business. It does not mean that you build your own prisons you cannot escape from. It does not mean that you build your own job. Building a business is about building a comprehensive system that works almost without supervision. You should think of your business as a product that can be finished and sold at some point.
Elon Musk – Ashlee Vance
“I would like to allocate more time to dating, though. I need to find a girlfriend. That’s why I need to carve out just a little more time. I think maybe even another five to ten—how much time does a woman want a week? Maybe ten hours? That’s kind of the minimum? I don’t know.”
Elon Musks biography is a fantastic book to motivate you towards high achievement and not giving up. Realizing that even the best entrepreneurs on the planet have exactly the same struggles can be quite liberating. Entrepreneurship is hard, for everyone. In the face of the extremely complicated problems at SpaceX and Tesla, and the huge failures, delays, emotional dramas, and close to bankruptcy situations, you will realize that the problems you have in your own business are quite ridiculous and pretty normal.
High Performance Habits – Brendon Burchard
“Don’t spend years on what could be done in months with better planning and more focused execution. Long projects zap morale. The longer it takes to develop, the less likely it is to launch. Make the call, make progress, and get something out now—while you’ve got the motivation and momentum to so.”
Brendon Burchard takes a quite scientific approach when it comes to high performance and explains in excruciating detail what you can and should do to become the best version of yourself. If you are interested in establishing routines and really want to know whats drives satisfaction, happiness, and want to optimize your way you approach life. I highly recommend reading this book. Especially if you enjoyed the books “The One Thing”, or “Eat The Frog”, this is a perfect addition.
Fitness For The World – Marc Schmitt
“I find exercise the most natural and effective mood booster there is. You only have one body and one shot to look after it – and the older I get the more important I realize my health is.” Richard Branson
My upcoming book “Fitness For The World” will help you to get in the best shape of your life. Period. But that is not all. Being a high achiever or entrepreneur requires tremendous amounts of focus and determination. Staying fit and healthy supercharges your energy levels, which is necessary for increased focus and productivity. If you want to read the first chapter for FREE make sure to subscribe.
The 7 Day Startup – Dan Norris
“If you are not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you’ve launched too late.” Reid Hoffman”
“Once you launch, you need to get more people paying you. You have to relentlessly pursue your best method of getting customers and not the stuff you naturally gravitate to.”
This book is absolutely perfect for beginners who would like to start a new online business and do not really know where to begin or lack motivation. It is easy and extremely practical. It might take you a little longer than 7 days to get that website running including everything else, but it will speed up the initial process significantly.
Dotcom Secrets – Russell Brunson
“You need to be able to build out a full Value Ladder. Most businesses I look at have one or two pieces of the ladder, but they rarely have all four. Once we add in the missing pieces, the business can start to expand dramatically. There’s no end to the level of backend services and experiences you can add. If you keep providing more and more value, people will spend more and more money to keep working with you.”
The title might be a bit misleading. The only objective of this book is to teach you the value of a sales funnel. Sales funnels are extremely valuable for any business, especially if you are operating online exclusively. This might be one of the missing pieces you have not realized yet.
The Millionaire Fastlane – MJ – DeMarco
“Somebody should tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying. Then we might live life to the limit, every minute of every day. Do it! I say. Whatever you want to do, do it now. There are only so many tomorrows. ~ Michael Landon”
Ignore the annoying headline, this book is awesome. In fact, the headline of this book almost made me ignore it, but it is actually a quite interesting and valuable read, especially for those of you just starting to get their feet wet. If you are currently working a 9-5 and are not really satisfied, have a look at this book. MJ DeMarco clearly describes the difference between the sideline, the slow lane, and the fast lane, and why you should gravitate towards the later at all times.
The 10X Rule – Grant Cardone
“Never reduce a target. Instead, increase actions. When you start rethinking your targets, making up excuses and letting yourself off the hook, you are giving up on your dreams! These actions should be an indication that you’re getting off track—that you should begin thinking in terms of correcting your initial estimation of effort. The 10X Rule assumes the target is never the problem. Any target attacked with the right actions in the right amounts with persistence is attainable.”
Grant Cardone is one of the best sales gurus and motivational speakers out there and this comes across in this book. The message of the books is to simply pursue your dream relentlessly without looking back. While reading this book you will struggle to keep reading. You will probably get up and directly implement something and double your actions in an area.
Rework – Jason Fried
“Workaholics don’t actually accomplish more than nonworkaholics. They may claim to be perfectionists, but that just means they’re wasting time fixating on inconsequential details instead of moving on to the next task.” “Think about it this way: If you had to launch your business in two weeks, what would you cut out?”
Rework is an astonishing little book. It is not very long but perfectly written. The authors mention directly in the beginning that they ended up cutting the book in half before publishing and only kept the truly essentials lessons in it. Rework is an honest reflection about starting and growing a business. It tells you what really works from a practical perspective. The authors know what they are talking about and are able to give sound advise and motivation.
The One Thing – Gary Keller
“It is those who concentrate on but one thing at a time who advance in this world. Passion for something leads to disproportionate time practicing or working at it. That time spent eventually translates to skill, and when skill improves, results improve. Better results generally lead to more enjoyment, and more passion and more time is invested. It can be a virtuous cycle all the way to extraordinary results.”
The books perfectly deliver their core message. Focus at only one thing at a time. Do not split your resources and energy by pursuing different goals. If we focus on only one thing it is way easier to achieve excellence and to reach our goals. It actually goes even deeper. It helps you to answer the following question: “What’s the one thing you can do, such that by doing it, everything else will be easier or unnecessary?”
Eat That Frog! – Brian Tracy
“One of the very worst uses of time is to do something very well that need not be done at all.”
“The hardest part of any important task is getting started on it in the first place. Once you actually begin work on a valuable task, you seem to be naturally motivated to continue.”
I read this book a little to late. It is extremely practical and will motivate you to get to work during every chapter. You can read it from start to finish or just read a part you are interested in. I have read the book already twice and definitely have to give it a 5-star rating. It is the perfect summary of how to become more productive and get things done in every area of life.
Virtual Freedom – Chris Ducker
“As entrepreneurs, time is our most valuable commodity (MVC). Money will come and go, but once you’ve invested your time into something, that time is gone forever. It stands to reason that if there are any actions we can take as business owners to free up more time in our daily routines, we should take them.”
For many seasoned entrepreneurs, this might be nothing new, but especially in the beginning it makes sense to be reminded that there is not a single great business that was built by a single person. Most great entrepreneurs have one thing in comen and that is their ability to build a team that gets the job done. This frees up their time to focus on strategy and big-picture growth.
